The music is inspired by British popart-artist Pauline Boty, who is considered a pioneer in the movement but never got her due in the history of art.
Boty was a brilliant artist who offered an original gaze to the popart of the 1960’s London Scene. Through her collages and paintings she explored current political issues and feminism among other themes.
In “Pauline Boty: bring her out!” I have composed music inspired by Pauline’s collages where she mixed elements from mass culture with painting. In this music, I have found inspiration among hit tunes and sound tracks from TV series and films from the last five decades - and used this as a starting point for writing swinging jazz music that nods to its roots, but stil sits well in our age. It has resulted in an original, whimsical and moving record that speaks to many. The overhanging themes of the music and lyrics are both Boty’s life and art, but also the structural issues that determined her professional destiny, and draws the line to current challenges of today.
